The lovely Helen

Helen Maddox

Background

Born in Blenheim, some decades ago. After doing my time at an all girl’s school, I joined the Forestry service, enjoyed my practical year and then junked out of Uni but went to all the bands. Moved into IT rather by accident and have ended up as a contract Project Manager which I love (and they pay me). Did the marriage / divorce thing and exited with a lovely house in Korokoro (great views, soon to be lovely garden) plus the dog (on to version two) & cat (evil by nature). Have played a number of sports such as Hockey, Touch Rugby & canoe polo plus been into Mountain Biking on & off for years and pretend to kayak in summer.

Goals
SHORT TERM (3 YRS)
  • Complete the Round Taupo bike ride and still be able to unclip at the finish
  • Complete the 2006 6 HR adventure series if I can find some one mad enough to team up with.
  • Go biking somewhere exotic for a month or so
  • Team up to do the Crazyman or something similar
  • Do one more half marathon
  • Do Karapoti on my shiny new Mountain bike
LONG TERM (3 TO 5 YEARS)
  • Have travelled to a new country every year
  • Have done a new crazy thing each year even if I never do it again (trying snowboarding this year)

GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Completed 5 half marathons in the distant past & the odd MTB race
  • 2004 - Two women team / Round Taupo bike ride
  • Not coming last at the Wellington 6 Hour adventure race this year (by at least 4 teams)!

  • OTHER INTERESTS

Landscaping my hilly / bush section, just build a pond out of railway sleepers (hey it’s sort of level and the goldfish seem to cope swimming up hill). Conning my sister into duathlons / triathlons and taking her kids on adventure weekends (and then giving them back).
